Norma Jean Martin

Norma Jean Martin

Norma Jean Martin (Director)

Fashion has always been a passion for Norma Jean Martin. At an early age, she was responsible for a significant adjustment in the design of her high school uniform. On   resumption of school after summer vacation she wore a trail blazing knee length pleated skirt, a big change from the usual ankle length skirt that characterized the standard school uniform. Before long other girls followed suit and began wearing knee length skirts, much to the chagrin of the principal.

At 18, Norma became a print model for a famous Jeans designer, a position that lasted for 5 years (while attending college). She graduated with a degree in Education and pursued teaching as a full time career for 10 years. In 1988 Mrs. Martin followed her passion and pursued a degree in Fashion Design and Retail Marketing. She graduated with honors from The Art & Fashion Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in Florida. She was immediately recruited by Macy's as A Personal Shopper. Her numerous years in the top retail stores enriched her knowledge of the fashion business, where among other things she was responsible for trunk shows and  special events. She also planned and coordinated several noteworthy charity fund raiser events such as The Breast Cancer Benefit, the designer gala benefit for the Leukemia Society and finally planning and implementing the annual Spring Extravaganza for her church in Florida.

Mrs. Martin is passionate about Caribbean fashion and formed A Fashion Affair (AFA) over 10 years ago to promote the beauty and creative designs that flows from the Caribbean. She actively seeks partnering opportunities with Caribbean community based organizations in order to promote this rich cultural expression. Her productions have been warmly and enthusiastically received in the Atlanta area with the resounding success of last year’s event "A Caribbean Kaleidoscop Fashion & Cabaret Show 2007". This year 2008 "Caribbean Fantasy" promises to be far more momentous. Don’t miss it
